Dearest Flower:
Today I purchased 'World of curls activator gel' for £4.50 at 'Beauty Stop Hair We Go' in Blackpool after seeing a few revies on YoutTube (YT). It appealed to me beccause of its 'so called' moisturizing ability since my hair has been feeling dry to the touch so I moisturized thoroughly with Giovanni Leave in, sealed with an oil blend and castor oil on the ends followed by self-made shea butter whip before styling. I currently have two strand twists in my hair so I took one apart and smoothed in some gel. My hair shrunk up as if I have wet it. It felt soft and I did the same for a few more twists in the front of my hair then twistsed it again. My hair felt soft even after it dired. I will have a better feel for how my hair feels after consistent use. The key is consistency, because if I use a product only a few times or on and off, it is hard for me to see wether my hair likes it or not.
The magic ingredient in many gel activators is glycerine, which is the second ingredient after H2O (water) hence its moisturizing and conditioning abilities. It claims to do other things, such as prevent split ends (not repair!) and promote growth. This is not a surprising claim as moistursised hair strands have more elasticity. Water is the most basic form of moisture. I read in 'The Afro Hair & Beauty Bible' ( by Alison Husbands) that our hair needs to maintain an ideal moisture of 10-11% by using a carrier oil to seal in water-based moisture.
How I plan to use the product:
Moisturiser: The product claims to soften hair and make it more managble and it contains oil sheen.
Styling aid after leave in for twists, braids, etc. This product does not provide hold and can probably be used under styling gel such as 'Fatasia IC styling gel' or even 'Eco Styler' which provide hold. However I have not tried this yet yet because I am not an avid gel-user.
Tip:
Keep in mind that Glycerine (second ingredient) is a humectant and it works by drawing moisture from the air into your hair in warm weather. In the winter when used, the reverse can occur, wherby the moisture in your tresses is drawn out into the air. This product therefore should be used when its warmer. However, I can still use it to prep my hair under wigs and still use it to go outside as long as my hair is covered and I am transporting to another location.
Your input: If you use or have used the product of discussion, please comment on how it is working or has worked for you. ;O) x
Have a blessed day! x
